As a research assistant with Dr. Gina Kuperberg, I was involved in several projects investigating
language processing using event-related potentials, a simple neuro-imaging technique that
allows researchers to look at patterns of electrical activity generated by the brain via electrodes on the scalp.
- I worked with Sophie DeGrauwe on her study of sentence-level metaphorical language processing (as
compared to literal and anomalous language.)

- With Gina and Daphne Holt,
I helped to write up a study investigating the processing of emotional words (positive, negative and neutral valences)
in plausible sentences in patients with schizophrenia and healthy adults.

- Most recently, with Ming Xiang (Harvard University),
I worked on a project looking at the effect of the words “even so” in reversing predictions in a discourse context.
- In addition, I helped to develop a new paradigm that crosses the strength of causal
relationships between discourse events with the temporal order of these events.

Independent Study, Washington University in St. Louis (2006-2007)

Under the guidance of Dr. Brett Kessler, I did an independent
study in computational linguistics during my senior year at Washington University in St. Louis.
I used object-oriented Perl to implement the Earley
algorithm to parse the syntax of (some) English sentences. This paper
describes the implementation that I acheived.
